Lazy Sunday...

Well, I have not laughed so hard in years. Class of  '94 Reunion...we picked up like we left off... and laughed late into the night... hence a lazy Sunday today. My favourite. Hope you've had a wonderful weekend. xx

Lazy Sunday

Had the most magnificent sleep in this morning and now off to WOMADelaide, an incredible world music and dance festival in Adelaide. It's a long weekend here and the sun is shining. Happy Days.

Bedroom Inspiration

Flicking through a mag while on a mini break in Middleton and I came across a picture of some quirky under bed storage options. On closer inspection I realised that the entire bedroom suite was made of cardboard... The Karton Bedroom in fact. Very cool. Made in Germany you can get the bed, bedside tables and storage drawers for under $500 which, in bedroom furniture terms, is a bargain! And that's not all they do.... there's also The Karton Office, The Karton Wall, and lots more. Not sure how practical they'd be for me at the rate I spill things, but I'm sure they've taken that into account and made them mighty tough.

Adelaide Secrets

I hope you've had a great weekend. It's been incredibly wet and cold here in the Adelaide Hills this weekend. I'm still fighting off a winter cold, but managed to have a wonderful girls night out last night staying at a funky new accommodation option right in the centre of the city. The Franklin Hotel on Franklin Street has had a make over. A fully renovated bar downstairs and upstairs is one of the funkiest boutique hotels I've come across. The owners certainly have an eye for detail. It's incredibly unique, decked out with recycled wares, modernly restored and all the mod cons. Highly highly recommend.

It's quirky too, as you can see... I love that! The mini bar is included in the room rate plus a bag of goodies, which was just spot on when getting ready to head out. I feel like a cider... and chips... oh well there they are, have some. Don't mind if I do.

I finally got the chance to check out a handful of new wine bars in town too. Some of them not so new, but new to me because I don't venture out much these days. I have to say my pick of them all was Cantina Sociale on Sturt Street. If you didn't know it was there, well you wouldn't know it was there. Unobtrusive from the road and just quaint and exactly my kind of place. Bare brick walls, rustic corrugated iron ceilings, funky lighting, perfect nooks to sit with a beau, or larger spaces for a group of friends, quaint bar... and incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Start a tab and order a tasting plate with your first wine. You can honestly just sit there for hours in good company.
And so here I am... it's not even 7.30pm on a Sunday night and it's almost lights out for me. I did say I don't venture out much these days, and that is why. Haha. Have a great week!

French Apartment

After living in a small apartment close to the city for a number of years I am always intrigued to see what other people do in similar spaces (our place was nothing like this by any stretch of the imagination).  A couple from LA, with the help of Parisian architects Flora de Gastines and Anne Geistdoerfer, have transformed this gorgeous 130m2 apartment in the Paris disctict of Saint-Germain des PrĂ©s with lots of colour. Loving the bench seat in the kitchen and that bath!

Dreaming of a lazy Sunday

It's Mother's Day here today, and this is where I would love to spend my day (well at least a few hours) curled up listening to the rain outside. How inviting does it look?! But, I have to get ready and go into town to work at a careers expo today. For now I am just dreaming of a lazy Sunday. x

Ahhh the weekend

Another busy week has come to an end, and now looking forward to the weekend. Mine is full of sport on Saturday and then we are heading to the beach on Sunday... hopefully after a little sleep in which are few and far between these days... Can't wait! It might be one of the last beach weekends we have this Summer. I hope not, but making the most of it.
A fun week next week,  I start filming my segments for a lifestyle television series which'll air in a few months. I'll talk more about that in the coming weeks and months. Have a great weekend.

Glorious Peacock Bed Heads

The Family Love Tree... what a glorious site. Pages full of colourful homewares from stunning peacock chairs, to beautiful quilts and gorgeous botanical print cushions. My favourites though would have to be these elaborate peacock bed heads in the most vibrant colours that just make you happy.

Renovation heaven

I have been a little quiet of late for many reasons, one of which is I lost my voice, so quiet quite literally, and I have also been extremely busy at work organising a major event which was held on Sunday. All went well which is what you want, and so I now have more time to be at home with my daughter and to squeeze in blog posts while she is sleeping...YAY! Another thing this past week which has consumed me is that we have had to do an urgent renovation of our bathroom in our investment property which is an unexpected cost, but I have to say that I am having an absolute ball planning it. Hanging out to sink my teeth into another project. We have four weeks to achieve it and I am quietly confident. I have just purchased 50% of the big ticket items online in one hour, can you believe it. The tiles, vanity and almost the toilet and shower screen. So stay tuned for the reveal. Fingers crossed we can stick to the time frame and our budget which we've set at $5000. If I can go under I'll be thrilled. It's like a little challenge. Hope you have had a great start to the week, off to bed for me... until tomorrow.

Little Girl's Bedroom

I hope you are having a great weekend! In between rushing to sport and work today my husband and I managed to finally take down the cot in our daughter's bedroom and put together an antique bed given to us by my gorgeous friend Lorraine. I saw the bed in her attic a while ago and she said it was "meant for Amelie when she moved from a cot to a bed". I absolutely love the mix of old and new and so I was very excited by Lorraine's generous offer. I bought some beautiful bed linen in the July sales and we had a mattress made to fit the bed, which is an old 3/4. Basically, it is the width of a king single but the length of a single. Perfect size for a growing toddler.
The transformation has now begun, changing Amelie's room from a baby girl's room to a "big girl's" room. I've got a bit to do yet, including covering her toy box lid with the most divine linen fabric from Thea at Thea & Sami, but I thought I'd share a sneak peak anyway.

The School of Real Living

Thursday night this week my friend KD and I attended The School of Real Living Colour Masterclass. It was held at the Hotel Richmond and was such a fun night. A bunch of like minded women all with a passion for interiors.
I have a lot of pops of red in our house, but that night by flicking through my inspiration folders of magazine cut-outs I had collected and looking at colour, I realised my real colour passions lie with duck egg blues/greens and raspberry tones. Very similar to how I decorated my daughter's bedroom, but less saturated colour and more white. I tend to buy red because raspberry is so difficult to find. I think I need to become slightly more disciplined with my purchasing and stick to my guns. Being disciplined is tricky though I have to say when I like so many different styles. Modern eclectic, Scandinavian and vintage French with fresh crisp linens. If only I had a holiday house....
Interior Stylist Jacinta Preston from Real Living Magazine was there on the night and I managed to get a few minutes with her to pick her brain on what to do in our lounge room and bedroom to pull some ideas together. I spoke earlier in the week about my bedroom dilemma, and she mentioned not to make the print the focus of the room, which helped my thought process; and in our lounge room we have a lot of competing heroes in the room... Grandelier, Cloth Fabric lampshade, mirrors, fireplace... and I just need to simplify it. There's that discipline word again. Replace the mirror with a large print, or add lots of mirrors and make them the obvious feature. A great piece of advice is to work with what you already have to reduce the cost of the project. So, lots to think about. I seem to always have projects on the go at home, like most of us, and I can't wait to get stuck into our bedroom. Fresh and modern, here we come.

Real Living Master Class Inspiration

This week I'll be heading off to The School of Real Living Colour Master Class in the city which I am looking forward to. It is being put on by Real Living Magazine with guests from the International School of Colour + Design. We have been told to bring some inspiration and I have decided that my focus of the night will be our bedroom. We currently have a lot of timber furniture in the room and it's feeling a little dark for my liking so I am wanting to freshen things up a bit. We eventually want to get built-ins and a new bed so I thought I'd start with a few key pieces that I want to keep in the room to draw my inspiration from, add some fresh paint and go from there.

Ok, so for my inspiration I am going with a painting and a dresser. My husband commissioned this painting for me by one of my favourite artists, Georgina Hart, as a surprise for my birthday a few years ago, and the antique dresser below we bought while on our honeymoon in Tasmania. As the common theme in both pieces is the green, I am thinking lots of white with pops of green. I am keen to steer clear of browns and beige. Hmmm lots to think about. Hoping to learn a lot on Thursday night, so watch this space.

Quirky styling

Long time between posts. Not quite sure where the time has gone. We had a long weekend here this past weekend and I made a quick trip to IKEA (yes it is possible if you keep focused) and bought eight samla storage containers to store all of my daughter's baby clothes. I had them in nappy boxes in the laundry, but we were getting quite a collection and they weren't stacking neatly, so an intervention was needed. Amazing how an easy storage solution can brighten one's day. Our laundry is finally becoming a functional room instead of the room where we dump stuff. Hope you are having a great week. The pic should make you smile. A winking room. Clever styling.

Inspiring rooms for little girls

I am in the process of turning my little girls's bedroom into a not so little girl's bedroom. Well, she is still a little girl, 2 and three months, but she is ready for a big girl's bed now. Time to pack up the cot and put it in storage until a one day, maybe not child number two comes along. Change table no longer needed and some clever toy storage is about to have a makeover. There is so much inspiration out there. I have shared some of my favourites. I love the bright whites with pops of raspberry and hot pink, red linen upholstered bed heads, chalkboard table tops and wrought iron beds.

Restful slumber

I haven't had time to share much this week and the madness is about to get even crazier. We are picking grapes tomorrow for my husband's 2012 vintage. He's trying his hand at a Sagrantino. We'll see how we go with toddler in tow. Until then...
